Please tell us a brief bio of your career – how long have you taught at Rankin College of Business, what courses do you typically teach, what are your research interests, what is your educational background, etc.
I joined the RCB in August of 2023. I taught Consumer Behavior, Principles of Marketing, and Retailing during my first semester, and I am currently teaching Principles of Marketing, Project Management, and Integrated Marketing Communications. My research interest is studying executives at the top management team and their characterstics, which impacts firm strategy.
I did my undergrad from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal. I have two master’s degrees – an MBA and MS in Engineering and Technology Management. My master’s degrees are from Louisiana Tech University. My PhD is from the University of Mississippi.
What sets the Rankin College of Business apart from other business schools?
The students are the best. All my students are extremely hard working, kind, and eager to learn. It feels great to have such students. The faculty at the RCB are also extremely helpful. They go out of the way to make you feel comfortable. And of course, Dr. Sronce – I think we have a great person as our leader.
Do you have any favorite memories from your time at the Rankin College of Business?
During my nearly 7 months at the RCB, my fondest moments have all revolved around interacting with my students in class. Teaching marketing has been a joy because it’s such a dynamic and engaging subject. I believe openness and creativity are key for students to grasp marketing concepts fully. Our class discussions on marketing strategies from around the world have been particularly memorable. They reveal different perspectives from students that we might not otherwise see. These moments are truly the highlights of my experience here.
What attracted you to the education field?
The education field is really this combination of teaching, research, and service. We get to shape the young minds – while learning so much from them. We get to be creative and work on research. And we get flexible hours. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The freedom to teach and to do research on our own time is great. There is no micro-managing. I do not have to be on an everyday 9-5 schedule. There is so much respect associated with this line of work. We get summer breaks and Christmas breaks. Honestly, there is no part that I do not enjoy about my work.
What are your hobbies/interests (other than making the RCB/SAU great)? Or When you’re not working, what do you do?
I read a lot of books. When I am not reading course books, I am reading fictional books. I also do CrossFit.
