- What is interlibrary loan?
- Interlibrary loan is the act of loaning or borrowing library materials.
- Who can use the Magale Library interlibrary loan service?
- Current students, faculty, and staff of Southern Arkansas University may use interlibrary loans free of charge.
- What is the response time?
- Article requests usually come through an electronic format, so most articles arrive within 24/48 hours after being requested. Books come through the mail and can take up to two weeks after being shipped.
- How will the Magale Library interlibrary loan department get in touch when the item arrives?
- The interlibrary loan department will primarily get in touch through email. If there isn’t a response through email the department will get in touch by phone.
- Is there a limit to how many requests can be turned in?
- The library provides current undergraduates with 10 free requests per semester. Graduate students are provided with 20 free requests per semester. Students will be notified when their limit has been reached.
- How do I request an interlibrary loan?
- Below there are links to a book form and an article form. Click on the appropriate link, fill out the form, and click on submit. The request will be sent to the email of Donna McCloy, the interlibrary loan librarian.
- When is the interlibrary loan department open?
- The Magale Library interlibrary loan office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Requests that are submitted on the weekends will be processed on Mondays.

- Can I request a textbook through interlibrary loan?
- It is the policy of the Magale Library interlibrary loan department not to request/borrow current textbooks.
- Does Magale Library do interlibrary loans for Distance Learning Students?
- Magale Library will accept requests for copies of journal articles or a chapter, but book requests can only be made if the patron is close enough to retrieve the item. For more information see “Online & Distance Education Support Services Policies”.
- Who sets the due date for the books, CDs, or DVDs that are borrowed?
- The due date for any borrowed item is set by the lending institution and must be respected and obeyed.
- Can I renew interlibrary loan items?
- If you would like to renew your interlibrary loan item notify Donna McCloy, dmmccloy@saumag.edu. The renewal request should be submitted at least one week before the due date. Permission to renew an item is up to the lending institution.
- Where do I pick up/ return items?
- Interlibrary loan requests can be picked up/ returned to Magale Library, office # 216. For directions inquire at the circulation desk.
- If the item that is borrowed has been lost will I be charged?
- Yes, patrons are responsible for the items that they borrow. The lending institution will send an invoice for the cost of the item.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that not all requests may be processed due to copyright or other restrictions. Additionally, interlibrary loan requests may be delayed or denied due to lending partner closures, such as national holidays, quarter/semester breaks, fall/winter/spring breaks, etc. Should a request be denied, the Magale Library staff will contact you and provide an explanation why the request cannot be fulfilled. The last day to make interlibrary loan requests is the last day of the semester or summer session.
