Mr. John W. Dumas ’76
Retired VP, Murphy Oil Corp
John W. Dumas has served on the Business Advisory Council since it was reestablished in 2017. He is a 1976 graduate of Southern State College earning a Bachelor of Business Administration cum laude. He also earned a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Arkansas.
He is retired from Murphy Oil Corporation where he served as Vice President, Corporate Insurance upon retirement. He served as head of Murphy’s corporate insurance department for 28 years and was promoted in that position several times. His primary duties included insurance placements, contractual risk transfer, claims and litigation oversight and risk mitigation. Prior to joining Murphy he served in the treasury department of Pennzoil Company as Manager, Pension Fund Investments and in various positions within the corporate insurance department.
He has served on the Southern Arkansas University Foundation since 2016 and is currently a member of the investment committee. He previously served as director of Oil Insurance Limited and Oil Casualty Insurance Limited for over 12 years. In addition, he served on the advisory boards of Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and as financial advisor on the board of a parochial elementary school.
Mr. Dumas spent his childhood and most his adult life as a resident of El Dorado. He recently relocated to Atlanta, TX. He is happily married to Peggy and has two special daughters, Kathryn and Jessica and two precious granddaughters, Isla and Amilia. He enjoys traveling, both domestic and international, reading and spending time outdoors.
