All scholarships serve to give continuous support to students as they work towards getting their degrees. We know that foster youth experience unique challenges that can act as barriers to higher education. Therefore, Southern Arkansas University provides opportunities for foster youth to excel by awarding them the THIS IS HOME Scholarship. The purpose of this scholarship is to award students who face adversities, such as the foster care system, homelessness, and/or being an orphan.
Who is Eligible?:
- Incoming Freshmen and upperclassmen who were in the Foster Care System when they turned 18
- Students receiving the benefits of the McKinney-Vento Act; educational rights and protections for homeless children and youth
- Orphans able to provide front-copy of tax return, verification of non-filing, or independent filing of taxes.
Requirements:
- Retention of the scholarship requires you to enroll in a minimum of 12 hours in each fall and spring semester of undergrad.
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 Cumulative.
- Must do community service hours during the duration of the scholarship. More information will be provided later.
- Attach a letter of intent (essay) describing your need for this scholarship.
- Proof of documentation that you’re eligible to apply for the scholarship.
