What is SAU-ESL?
SAU-ESL, a program of Southern Arkansas University, prepares students for full participation in the University degree programs by speeding up their English language learning and fluency and by developing your strategies for successful academic discourse and cultural competence.

Why SAU-ESL?
When you have completed the SAU-ESL program, you will be able to meet SAU’s English proficiency requirement and will be able to start your degree program at the beginning of the next semester.
We meet our students at the airport and help them get settled on campus, where they have access to all university facilities and services, including housing, dining hall, health services, the library, Internet access, computer labs, exercise facilities—such as the gym and the pool—and student clubs.
We have five sessions per year, each lasting seven weeks: two in the fall, two in the spring and one in the summer.
We will assess your English and place you in one of our 5 levels, each lasting only 7 weeks. You will have 24 hours of instruction per week (18 of classes, 6 of lab). When you meet SAU’s English proficiency requirement, you will be able to start your degree program at the beginning of the next semester.
On the first day of each session, new students take the SAU-ESL Placement Exam and are placed in the appropriate level for each class: Extensive Reading & Listening, Intensive Reading, Writing, Conversation, and an Immersion Project.
Finally, you will appreciate that our tuition and fees cost much less than most other universities.
