OPT SEVIS Profile Information


The SEVP Portal allows students on OPT and STEM OPT to update their employment information, address, and phone number.  The transition to the new system may be confusing and this page is designed to help our students navigate the Portal.

Requesting Updated I-20

Once you have updated your information through the SEVIS Portal, please allow 2 business days then complete the Document Pick-up form

  • You do not need an updated I-20 if you update your email, phone number, or address.
I am on approved OPT and I need to update my employer information.
For OPT employer updates:

    1.  please go to the Employment Page in the Portal
    2. Click ADD EMPLOYER
    3. Fill out all of the requested information
    4. The SAVE button activates only when you have entered data in all required fields.
    5. Click SAVE and the Portal will display a SUCCESS message
    6. After saving, the employer is added to the employer count and listed in the Employer section of the page
When will I get the email for the SEVIS Portal?
You will receive the SEVIS Portal email once your OPT has been approved and you have reached your start date on your EAD card.
I need to register my account in the SEVP Portal but I didn’t get the email notification from SEVP.
You will not receive the email notification until your OPT has been approved by USCIS.

If you do not receive your notification email:

  • Check your spam or junk mail folder
  • Send an email to sauinternational@saumag.edu to confirm that the correct email address is in your SEVIS record
I have received my OPT card but I didn’t receive the email notification to register my account
Now that your OPT card has arrived you still need to wait until the actual start date listed on your OPT card. On your start date SEVIS will send the SEVP Portal all of your biographical information. The Portal will then email you the link to register your account. This process may take a few days.

The email notification will be sent to the email address that is listed in SEVIS. If you do not receive your notification email:

  • Check your spam or junk mail folder.
  • Send an email to RebekahBarnes@saumag.edu to confirm that the correct email address is in your SEVIS record
What to do if you receive this email from the SEVP Portal

As a student on STEM OPT, you are required to complete a final evaluation for your STEM training. Work with your employer to complete the final evaluation section of the Form I-983. Your DSO must receive the completed evaluation within 10 days after you stop working for your employer.

If you did not make this change in the SEVP Portal or you did not ask your Designated School Official (DSO) to make this change in SEVIS, contact your DSO immediately. Do not reply to this email. It was sent from a mailbox that is not monitored. You will get no response.

For STEM applicants: Please know this is a standard email sent when any type of changes have been made on your account. The email is for informational purposes only and does not affect you. You DO NOT need to respond.
How do I request my I20 after updating my employer information on the Portal?
After updating your OPT employer information in the Portal, please wait 2 business days before requesting your I20. After 2 business days, please complete our office’s document pickup form
