Dependents

The following documents will be needed for each of the dependents you wish to bring with you:

• Spouse- marriage license or documentation
• Child- Birth certificate or other government documentation
• Passport ID page of each spouse/child
• Affidavit of Support with extra dependent costs
• Bank statement or other financial documentation

F1 students have to show they can cover the standard cost of attending SAU with the additional cost of a dependent which is:

• Spouse- $2500
• Child- $1,200 per child

Log into the Portal by selecting “I have a SAUMAG Username and password”.  See the next question below for further instructions.

Use your SAU login information to log into the application

• Select “I have SAUMAG username and password”
• Username: SAU email without the “@mulerider.saumag.edu” email address (ex jmmartisek1234), Password: Your SAU password
• Select “Request, 20XX” (pick the year for your request)
• You will be taken to your Request page.

You do not need to click the application button again to log back into the application.  To get to your application log into the student profile page

Student Profile

Once on the profile page, you will see your incomplete application listed on the left-hand side of the page.

There are a few steps you will need to follow during the request:

1. Login to the Request portal.
2. Fill out the Add F2 Dependent Questionnaire
3. Upload all the documents listed under the Attach Document section
4. Once you are done click the submit button

F-2 dependents may not accept employment or engage in business under any circumstances. Employment is defined as providing services, part-time or full-time, for financial or other compensation, including self-employment.

The spouse of an F-1 student may not engage in full-time study, and the F-2 child may only engage in full-time study at an elementary or secondary school (kindergarten through twelfth grade).

F-2 dependents can study part-time in an academic or vocational curriculum at an SEVP-certified school. F-2 dependents can also study in avocational or recreational programs–hobbies. An F-2 spouse or child who desires to engage in full-time study, other than as described above, must obtain F-1 status.

An F-2 dependent’s status is valid only if you maintain status. Though the regulations do not define the amount of time an F-1 student can be outside the U.S. without affecting the status of the F-2 dependents who remain in the U.S., such periods of separation should be brief.
