Lufkin Mfg & Sales is seeking a summer Engineering & Operations Intern. This role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, working directly with our in-house engineer and plant manager to improve production processes, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and analyze operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Plant Manager and Engineer to develop, document, and standardize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production lines
- Conduct time studies and process observations to evaluate labor efficiency and identify improvement opportunities
- Assist in analyzing workflow, bottlenecks, and production performance
- Support implementation and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Collect and organize production data for reporting and decision-making
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process enhancements
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure updates to SOPs reflect current practices
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field (preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and organizational ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills
