SAU – A.L.A.S.K.A Masters Enrichment Scholarship
Advanced Learning for Alaskan Scholars Seeking Knowledge and Advancement
The SAU-A.L.A.S.K.A. Master’s Enrichment Scholarship was established to support Alaska residents pursuing graduate education through Southern Arkansas University’s School of Graduate Studies. Building upon SAU’s educational partnerships and collaborative initiatives in Alaska, the scholarship reflects the University’s commitment to providing additional graduate education opportunities for students seeking advanced knowledge, professional growth, career advancement, and lifelong learning through master’s-level study.
Scholarship Benefit
Recipients of the SAU- A.L.A.S.K.A Master’s Enrichment Scholarship will receive $90 per credit hour for each master’s-level course in which they enroll.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a resident of Alaska.
- Meet admissions requirements for Southern Arkansas University’s School of Graduate Studies.
- Be enrolled part-time or full-time in master’s-level coursework at SAU
- Maintain a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0.
- Remain in good academic standing with the University.
Conditions
- The scholarship applies only to master’s level coursework taken through Southern Arkansas University.
- Students are eligible to reapply each semester provided all eligibility requirements, including GPA requirements, continue to be met.
Submit the SAU-ALASKA Application to SAU’s School of Graduate Studies.
8 Scholarships for Graduate Students
Ann Keese Thomas Graduate Scholarship
One or more AKT graduate scholarships may be awarded on a competitive basis to students who are not receiving graduate assistantship funding or any other scholarship support and who meet the following criteria:
- Completed application.
- Unconditional admission to graduate studies.
- Completed at least 12 hours of graduate coursework.
- Grade point average of 3.50 or higher in all graduate work, with no C grade included in work.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty in higher education.
Deadline: May 31st
Conditions which apply:
- Must maintain a 3.50 grade point average with no grade lower than a B.
- Must be continuously enrolled for the 12-month period.
- May reapply for one additional year.
Selection Criteria:
Preference will be given to students pursuing a graduate degree in the counseling field. All other qualified graduate students meeting eligibility requirements will be considered after priority applicants.

Dr. Bob Burns Military Service Scholarship
The Dr. Bob Burns Military Service Scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Burns, whose life exemplified dedicated service to country, career, and community. This scholarship supports graduate students with military affiliation when other military-related benefits have been exhausted, are unavailable, or do not meet eligibility requirements.
Recipients of this scholarship continue Dr. Burns’ legacy by advancing their education, leadership, and professional contributions in service to their communities.

Scholarship funds may be awarded to one or more recipients on a competitive basis to graduate students with military affiliation who meet the following criteria:
Eligibility Requirements
- Completed scholarship application.
- Unconditional admission to graduate studies at Southern Arkansas University.
- Enrolled as a full-time graduate student.
- Verification of military affiliation as one of the following:
- Veteran
- Active-duty service member
- Former military personnel, including Guard or Reserve service
- Eligible spouse of a disabled or deceased veteran
- Official documentation verifying military service or spouse eligibility.
- Demonstrated ineligibility for military education benefits under Chapters 30, 31, 33, or 35, or inability to qualify for other military-related educational assistance programs.
- Minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00.
Selection Considerations
Priority consideration will be given to applicants pursuing graduate degrees in Educational Leadership or Business-related fields. All other qualified graduate students meeting eligibility requirements will be considered after priority applicants.

Conditions Which Apply
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00 throughout the scholarship period.
- Must attend the annual Farmers Bank Speaker Series event at SAU. Dates TBD each Fall.
- Must remain continuously enrolled during the scholarship award period.
- May receive this scholarship in conjunction with student loans.
- Scholarship funds may be awarded in full to a single recipient or divided among multiple qualified applicants.
- Recipients may reapply in subsequent years if eligibility requirements continue to be met.

Eligibility requirements:
- Practicing educator in Arkansas
- Proven Academic Ability
- Successful teaching experience (minimum one year)

Waivers
Out-of-State Tuition Waiver
Graduate Students residing in the following counties qualify for the contiguous county waiver effective summer 2017.
- North Louisiana: Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Union, Morehouse, Carroll
- Texas: Cass, Bowie
Out-of-state tuition for students living in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas, and for children of SAU graduates living anywhere, is waived when these students choose to live in University housing.
Arkansas Residents Aged 60 or Above

Act 678 of 1975 provides for tuition-free enrollment in academic credit courses for all Arkansas residents aged 60 or above on a “space available” basis upon proof of age. Enrollment options include credit registration (grade and transcript record), audit (no grade but a transcript record), or non-credit (no grade, no transcript record). Subsequently, the University will waive the mandatory fees associated with the class.
Arkansas Taxpayer Waiver
Bona fide Arkansas income taxpayers and their dependents who reside in one of the eligible counties or parishes of an approved state may enroll at any qualifying Arkansas public institution of higher education and receive the out-of-state tuition waiver.
In order to get the non-resident fee waived, the following criteria must be met:
- Dependent student or parent must provide a W-2 or verification of Arkansas earnings of $5,500 or more for the prior tax year.
- Student and parent must live in one of the following counties or parishes:
- Louisiana: Claiborne, Union, or Webster
- Mississippi: Coahoma or Tunica
- Missouri: Barry, Dunklin, McDonald, Oregon, Ozark, Pemiscot, Ripley, or Taney
- Oklahoma: Delaware, LeFlore, McCurtain, or Sequoyah
- Tennessee: Dyer, Shelby, or Tipton
- Texas: Bowie
