The Introduction to Engineering Lab is equipped with 37 high-end computers. Software installed on those machines includes:
- AutoCAD drafting software
- SolidWorks solid modeling software
- MATLAB computational software
- ANSYS plus ANSYS Fluent finite element (FE) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software
- Engineering Equation Solver (EES)
The AutoCAD software is the standard software used in ENGR 1212 (Engineering Graphics). Freshman students are introduced to solid modeling with SolidWorks in ENGR 1021 (Introduction to Engineering Lab). SolidWorks is also heavily used in ENGR 4023 (Senior Design). In ENGR 3083 (Numerical Analysis), students use MATLAB to complete homework assignments. Even though there is no formal course in FE and CFD, this lab is used to provide informal training for senior design students in these areas. There are two 72-inch smart TV monitors and a large white board for instructional use as well.
Besides computers, freshman engineering students are involved in robotic projects using Lego Mindstorm and Tetrix robots in this lab. Students are provided adequate instruction prior to use of any equipment.
