SAU Writing Consultants work with writers at all levels of experience, at any level of the writing process, on a one-to-one basis. For both face-to-face writers and virtual submissions, consultants provide feedback, suggestions, and advice on the clients’ writing without changing the voice of or writing the document for the client. Our consultants also train to work with graduate students–whose skills, experiences, and writing must be at the next level. They must be punctual, friendly, understanding, non-judgmental, and dedicated to working with writers. Consultants take an upper-level course (Theory and Practice of Writing Consultation) in conjunction with the first semester of their appointment; they also work up to ten hours per week, including participation in a weekly one-hour meeting that provides ongoing training.
