SAU’s Pre-Health Club is open to all SAU students interested in a career in the health sciences. The student-run club coordinates educational, outreach and community service activities and helps provide its members with both practical experience and training, as well as networking and mentoring opportunities to prepare for a career in the health sciences.

Pre-Health Advisory Committee
Southern Arkansas University’s Pre-Health Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Daniel McDermott, helps students interested in pre-health fields, including medical doctors, physician assistants, and other related professions, by advising on activities, letters of recommendation, and strategic planning.
Purpose: The committee’s primary function is to support students pursuing careers in healthcare, offering guidance and resources to help them succeed in their pre-health journey.
Composition: The committee is comprised of SAU faculty from the Biology and Chemistry Departments, including Dr. Daniel McDermott (chair), Dr. Antoinette Odendaal , Dr. Jeremy Chamberlain, Dr. James Hyde, Dr. Adrian Showalter, Dr. Samia Amin, and Dr. Abe Tucker.
Activities: The committee convenes to discuss the assessment and viability of pre-health activities, letters of recommendation, and strategic planning for the pre-health program.
