Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Sport Management, effective August 1, 2024. Applications will be accepted until February 1, 2024 or until position is filled.
The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences is one of the largest on campus. The department focuses on Bachelor degrees in Exercise Science, Sports Management, K-12 Physical Education and Health (Teacher Preparation) and a Master’s degree in coaching and sports administration.
The Sport Management program at Southern Arkansas University is vibrant and one of the fastest-growing majors on campus, with 75+ majors. The degree currently offers two tracks (Coaching and Athletic Administration).
The online M.S. in Kinesiology-Coaching degree program was established in 2011 and focuses on the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC). It is accredited through the United States Center for Coaching Excellence.
Duties: teach a full-time load consisting mainly of online instruction; teach courses in Sports Management and M.S. in Kinesiology-Coaching degree program; use a student-centered approach to teaching, advising/mentoring; serve on committees; scholarship and service to the university, department and community and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: earned doctorate in Sport Management or closely related field, ABD candidates will be considered for the position; demonstrate excellence as an online teacher; enthusiasm to teach and mentor aspiring young professionals in coaching and athletic administration; have the ability to lead learning in face-to-face and online environments; have the creative vision for curricular revisions that will keep our majors abreast of the evolving needs of the study; has strong desire to work with diverse student populations and is committed to using data to improve the quality of all facets of the department continuously; have a record of or the potential for scholarly research including publications, and /or securing external funding; must be active in professional organizations; experience with the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC) and the United States Center for Coaching Excellence preferred.
