Staff Senate Meeting Minutes

Staff Senators:
Members Present: Sharee Berry, Kayla Rasberry, Marisa Grippo, Gary Hickson, Anne Sands,
Wilson Impson, Margarita Norment, Greg Taylor, Angela McLaughlin, Vilma Espinoza,
The Staff Senate met on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. via zoom
Start time: 2:12 p.m.
Staff Senate Award Update: (Roger Giles)
-The professional staff category is not equal to the support staff category; in the beginning they
were equal.
-Would like to possibly come up with a plan to move awards back 50/50 or leave it as is?
– Other alternative methods will be proposed and discussed at the next meeting.
COVID UPDATE: (Dr. Berry)
-At this time there are 116 active cases on campus, that includes staff and faculty. Seventy
quarantined and two quarantined on campus
– New quarantine and isolation protocol were sent out this morning (01-19-22); the Task Force
will continue to meet weekly.
ENROLLMENT: (Dr. Berry)
– Deregistration day is tomorrow (01-20-22)
– Spring: (Undergrad) Enrollment is down a little, graduate is up and looking very
promising.
Campus Updates: (Dr. Berry)
– $275,000.00 Scholarship Endowment was donated to SAU before Christmas, funds will be
spread out around campus.
– The last two LED Lights were put up on the walking trail today.
– Alumni center should be complete around 02-14-22
-Landscaping updates were done at Wilkins Stadium
– Turf for the baseball field (fundraising is going on now to raise funds)
-Will finish up the indoor facility this year, 2022.
-Development: 6.3 million was raised and 4.5 million goal set for this year.
– Still have half of staff development funds available; encourage staff to take advantage of
webinars, trainings, etc.
– Looking at ways to help new faculty and staff moving to town to find quality and affordable
places to live.
– Shifting more resources for admissions to Texas, for recruitment.

November Faculty/Staff Senate meeting. Please contact Wilson if you have any questions.

New News: Have four open positions for Staff Senate, should we leave open?
-Kayla will send out an email to all staff in reference to the vacant positions
-United Way packets should arrive this week, Kayla will need assistance dividing them up.
-Margarita volunteered to gather five donations for United Way (Donations are due by midFebruary 2022)
