The Staff Senate met on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Business 341. Senators in attendance were Cynthia Blake, Kathy Cole, Josh Kee, Jeremy Langley, Shawana Reed, Amber Sharp, Becki Talley, Houston Taylor, Robbye Taylor, Sandra Walker, Lesley Walthall, Paula Washington-Woods, Wilma Williams, and Lillie Wright.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Houston Taylor. Jeremy Langley made a motion to accept the June 16 minutes. The motion was seconded by Sandra Walker. Houston Taylor welcomed the new members to the Staff Senate. New members are Phyllis Austin, Kathy Cole, Shawana Reed, Robbye Taylor, Paula Washington-Woods, and Lillie Wright.
Old Business
Proposed Amendments:
Houston Taylor announced that all three proposed amendments passed unanimously. He also noted that out of 169 staff members, 77 people voted on the amendments.
Wellness Plan:
Houston Taylor noted that he had received an e-mail from Coach Steve Dingman regarding the walking track proposal from Amber Sharp. Coach Dingman noted in his email that a wellness plan had been discussed campus-wide and perhaps the walking track plan could be incorporated into that plan. He also noted any fitness plan should be documented so that it could potentially help keep insurance costs down.
There was a discussion about Coach Dingman or Leonard Biddle coming to the back-to-school meeting on August 1st and giving an update on what equipment and machines the wellness center provided. Josh Kee will ask if one of them could possibly give a quick update at the meeting.
After discussion, it was decided Amber Sharp will be the contact person for any further discussions about the campus-wide wellness plan with Coach Dingman.
New Business
Houston Taylor officially turned the President’s position over to Josh Kee to continue the meeting. Elections were held immediately after. Jeremy Langley was elected Vice-President/President-Elect, Becki Talley was elected Secretary, and Amber Sharp was elected Faculty Representative.

Staff Senate Photo:
Josh Kee noted that a Staff Senate photo would be set up for the September meeting if a majority of the members could be present.
Back To School Meeting:
The staff back-to-school meeting will be Monday, August 1 with sessions at 10:00 and 1:15. Jeremy Langley makes a motion to have the back-to-school meeting serve as the August staff senate meeting. Paula Washington-Woods seconds the motion. The motion passed that the August 1 back-to-school meeting will be the Staff Senate August meeting.
Staff Employee Updates:
Houston Taylor gave an update on funeral arrangements for Coach Jay Adcox, who passed away on Tuesday, July 26. Per Coach Adcox request, there will be no funeral service or memorial service. The family will have a private service in Missouri. Lewis Funeral Home will have a video that will run from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29 and there will be a book to sign at the funeral home for anyone that wants to pay their respects. Houston noted there had been an outpouring of e-mails and phone calls to his office about Coach Adcox. Also, several things were mentioned for people to contribute to in memory of Coach Adcox. The Staff Senate wishes to express their deepest sympathy to the family of Coach Adcox.
The Staff Senate wishes to also express their sympathy to the family of James Jones, who passed away July 11. James was employed at the SAU Physical Plant.
Appreciation:
Houston Taylor also expressed his thanks and appreciation to Brad Stout, who provided the election survey via Survey Monkey for the Staff Senate positions.

The motion to adjourn was made by Jeremy Langley and seconded by Houston Taylor. The next scheduled meeting will be September 21 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 205.
