Committee Reports
University Committees
Becki Talley reported that the President had indicated he needed the names of the staff senate members that would be sitting on the university committees. Since there had been no meeting to elect the committee members, it was decided to allow the members that had been on committees the year before to remain on the committees without changes. If an outgoing staff senate member was on a committee, that committee spot was filled by current staff senate members. It was agreed to leave it as is unless someone requested to be taken off a committee.
Constitution Committee
Houston Taylor noted that he and Wilma Williams had met to discuss issues that may need to be addressed and changed by the staff senate. Some of the issues include excessive absences from meetings, how to handle certain issues in the election process, moving the elections from May to July, and how to handle the situation when the vice-president/president-elect does not get re-elected to the staff senate. Several options were discussed. The Constitution Committee will be meeting again and they will bring these issues back to the Staff Senate for consideration.
Academic Affairs
LaTricia Davis reported that Academic Affairs Committee will meet on September 30th.
New Business
Staff Senate Elections
Staff Senate elections were held. Houston Taylor was elected President, Josh Kee was elected Vice-President/President-elect, Becki Talley was elected Secretary, and Jeremy Langley was elected Faculty Liaison.
Other
Special Concerns
There are several people on campus that are having health issues and the staff senate would like to remember them. It was announced that there would be a fund-raiser on Monday, October 11 at the Rails for James Jones who works at the Physical Plant.
It was suggested that the Staff Senate might consider having an account that could be used as a benevolent fund.
Parking on Campus
Jeremy Langley asked if there was anything that could be done about students parking in visitor’s parking. Chief Plummer noted this was an on-going problem, but there is not good way to handle it. Ticket writers can ticket anyone in the visitor’s parking but it might turn out to be an actual visitor to the campus. It is very hard to know when to write a ticket or not.
Smoking on Campus
LaTricia Davis noted that students were using the parking lot south of the campus for smoking and that there had been complaints from some of the tenants of the building.
Family Day Activities
Saturday, September 25 is Family Day at SAU. Jeremy Langley invited everyone to come to the walk-over at 4:00 when the football players come to the stadium. He encouraged everyone to help cheer the team on. Ceil Bridges reminded everyone about Mulegating on Saturday.
Adjournment
The motion to adjourn was made by Jeremy Langley and seconded by Sarah Jennings. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m.
