The Staff Senate met on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 205. Senators in attendance were Kendra Copeland, Brenda Garrett, Shawana Reed, Lesley Walthall, Amber Sharp, Cynthia Blake, Houston Taylor, Jeremy Langley, Donald Wray, Sandra Smith, Sarah Jennings, Sandra Walker, and Eric Plummer. There was one visitor in attendance. Brenda Garrett served as proxy for Becky Talley, and Jeremy Langley served as proxy for Josh Kee.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Houston Taylor. A motion to accept the minutes from the previous meeting was made by Jeremy Langley and seconded by Cynthia Blake.
Old Business
Benevolence Fund
Discussion was held concerning the guidelines for use of any money collected in a Benevolence Fund. There was concern about the ease of accessing the funds. The committee will meet to work on the guidelines to present at the next Senate Meeting.
Committee Reports
Student Media Advisory
Jeremy Langley reported that the new Bray Managing Editor for the spring 2011 semester will be Melissa Heard. The Bray will also begin publication every other week instead of weekly starting in January 2011. The Bray online version will be updated every week.
Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee heard two cases this month.
New Business
A question concerning campus reserved parking spaces and what could be done about unauthorized cars parking in those spaces. Eric Plummer explained that the owners of the spaces would have to be the ones towing the vehicles if they wanted them towed. The University Police Department will not have a vehicle towed mainly because of the many variables concerning the parking spaces. Some people allow others to use their spaces.
Other
SAU Board of Trustees Meeting
Jeremy Langley reported on the Board of Trustees meeting. Items discussed included the $6.5 million in bonds for the Agriculture Facility, the relocation of the poultry and dairy farms to the Laney Farm, the Energy Conservation Policy, and the Arkansas Fire Training Academy.
Faculty Senate
Jeremy Langley also reported on the Faculty Senate meeting. Items discussed included the update on AQIP, the creation of a Remedial Courses Department to oversee the Developmental Studies, and the pictures of the Honor Professors that are now in Overstreet Hall will be relocated.
AQIP Orientation
Amber Sharp reported on the new accreditation process. We will identify where improvements are needed and report on three process improvements each year.
Staff Employee Updates
The Staff Senate continues to remember those with health issues with thoughts and prayers. Those specifically mentioned included Tonya Knight, Coach Adcox and James Jones.
Adjournment
The motion to adjourn was made by Jeremy Langley and seconded by Shawana Reed. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 205.
After the meeting was adjourned, a gift of appreciation for service as President to the Staff Senate was presented to Eric Plummer.
