The Staff Senate met on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 205. Senators in attendance were Cynthia Blake, Gaye Calhoun, Kendra Copeland, LaTricia Davis, Brenda Garrett, Charles Honza, Sarah Jennings, Josh Kee, Essie Moore, Eric Plummer, Shawana Reed, Sandra Smith, Becki Talley, Houston Taylor, Shelly Whaley and Donald Wray. Visitors included Tia Sargent.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order by Eric Plummer. Josh Kee made a motion to accept the minutes with a second by Donald Wray.
Old Business
Staff Senate Elections
Shelly Whaley reported that the first round of nominations for Staff Senate will be ready to send out by the last week of April. The first elections will be the at-large election followed by the unit elections.
Classified Staff Pay Plan
Chief Plummer announced that the second half of the classified staff pay plan will be implemented July 1.
Code of Ethics
At last month’s staff senate meeting, Plummer handed out the Code of Ethics from the Human Resource Office for the staff senate to look over and decide whether to vote to accept the Code of Ethics. It was suggested that the language under Responsibility in the section that begins with “Adhere to all laws…” the words “sexual orientation” should be added. Sandra Smith makes a motion to accept the Code of Ethics with the suggestion to add the words “sexual orientation”. LaTricia Davis seconded the motion.
Committee Reports
Faculty/Staff Picnic
Latricia Davis announced the Faculty/Staff Picnic would be held on Friday, April 25. If it rains, the picnic will move to the Rider Rink.
Student Affairs
Sandra Smith reported that Beta Epsilon Chi and SAU Campus Church were approved to operate on the SAU campus.
Annual Faculty Performance Review Monitoring
Kendra Copeland reported the evaluations for faculty might be revamped in the future.
New Business
Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP)
Plummer gave hand-outs that compared the AQIP program to the PEAQ program (SAU currently uses this form of accrediting process). Plummer asked for a resolution to support the AQIP process. A motion to support the AQIP process was made by LaTricia Davis and seconded by Josh Kee.
Board of Trustees Meeting
Chief Plummer reported on the Board of Trustees meeting. There was an election of officers, updates from Dr. Rankin and Dr. Lamkin, a report on the policies on travel reimbursement, and a review of the audit from the year ending 2009-2010 for SAU and SAU-Tech. Dr. Elizabeth Davis was named the Distinguished Professor of English. The budget 2010-2011 was approved.
Distinguished Alumni Dinner
Josh Kee noted that the Distinguished Alumni Dinner would be held on Saturday, April 26 in the Reynolds Center.
