Other
Sympathy
The Staff Senate expressed their sympathy to Essie Moore in the loss of her mother, Sandra Walker in the loss of her father, Rita Rhea in the loss of her father and Charles Taylor in the loss of his father and brother. We would also like to note the loss of our fellow staff member, J. Kaye Sawyer. Our prayers go out to each of the families affected by these losses.
Parking Appeals Committee
Kellye Ogle had been in contact with Tim Wise, Faculty Senate President, about the possibility of having a faculty/staff parking appeals committee. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided that Kellye Ogle would contact Dr. Wise again and get more input and information before the next staff senate meeting.
Visitors at Staff Senate Meeting
Kellye Ogle noted that she was going to invite Dr. David Rankin to attend the November staff senate to update the senate on recent developments involving the university.
Back to School Meeting Suggestions
At the last senate meeting, the staff had been asked by Roger Giles to recommend changes to the Back To School meetings. Several of the senate had heard from others with ideas, but after discussion it was decided to extend it to next month to give people more time to respond.
Staff Senate Community Projects
Kellye Ogle noted that she had researched other staff senates at other universities and suggested that SAU’s Staff Senate might consider doing volunteer work or a community project to get the senate more involved on campus or in the community. Ideas or suggestions will be reviewed at upcoming meetings.
Alumni Issues
Andrew Guy asked that the senate look into ways to involve Alumni more on campus. He noted that once a student graduates they don’t feel a connection to the university because they are not kept involved on campus. He suggested alumni cards be made that would allow alumni to use the library or the wellness center. It was suggested that Guy contact Ceil Bridges to see if they could work together on this issue.
Adjournment
The motion to adjourn was made by Donald Wray and seconded by Houston Taylor. The next meeting will be on November 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
