Staff Senate Minutes
September 12, 2007
The staff senate met on September 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Reynolds 205. Senators in attendance were Pat King, Charles Honza, Becki Talley, Gaye Calhoun, Wayne Garner, Brenda Garrett, Mary Hubbard, Melody Mayo, Essie Moore, Kellye Ogle, Houston Taylor, Wilma Williams, Marcela Brunson and Donald Wray. Visitors included Kelli Burrell.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Kellye Ogle. A motion to accept the minutes from the July meeting was made by Charles Honza and seconded by Houston Taylor. The motion passed.
Old Business
Clip Bonus
The following question was posed to the administration: How is the university going to implement the new clip bonus program that was approved by the governor and legislature? Will we go back to doing evaluations on the employee’s anniversary date instead of doing all of them at the end of the fiscal year?
Mr. Roger Giles’ response stated that the program is still under review and a decision had not been made. Kellye Ogle will check with Mr. Giles at a later date to see if and when changes will be made to the program.
Taking Classes During Work Hours – A motion was made to postpone the discussion on the policy change for employees taking classes during work hours to allow Mr. Darrell Morrison to address questions raised at the July meeting. The motion passed.
Committee Reports
There were no committee reports.
New Business
There are two vacancies on the Staff Senate due to resignations. The vacancy left by Linda Smith is an at-large position and the vacancy left by Art Horne is a President’s unit position. Houston Taylor, chair of the election committee, will be sending out nomination forms. Since the electronic voting research received favorable results, the Senate hopes to move to on-line/electronic voting in the near future.
Other
Parking Problems
Parking issues were discussed at length. The concerns and questions raised will be forwarded to the administration for a response. Faculty Senate President, Dr. Tim Wise was contacted about forming a faculty/staff parking appeals committee.
Back to School Meeting
Mr. Roger Giles requested recommendations/ideas for the Back to School Staff Meetings. Recommendations/ideas can include but are not limited to, the time of day the meeting is held, food preferences, and what we would like to receive updates on. Recommendations/ideas should be directed to any Staff Senator.
Committee Appointments
Staff senate members were appointed to serve on the University and Academic committees for the 2007/2008 academic year.
Adjournment
The motion to adjourn was made by Charles Honza and seconded by Donald Wray. The next meeting will be on October 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
