Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Houston Taylor, who extended a welcome to all the newly elected senators attending this meeting. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Mary Hubbard and seconded by Pat King. The motion passed.
Old Business
It was mentioned that the new 100% Staff/Faculty Waiver goes into effect with the second summer 2007 semester if approved by the SAU Board of Trustees. Houston also announced that the SAU Board of Trustees meets on Monday, May 20, 2007.

At this time, Houston passed the gavel of the Presidency of the Staff Senate to President elect Kellye Ogle. Kellye conducted the election of the new slate of officers for the 2007-2008 year.
The new officers are as follows:

Committee Openings:
Election Committee
Mary Hubbard has served on this committee for quite some time and has asked to be replaced. The chair of this committee was Kellye Ogle and will also need to be replaced. It was agreed that the Vice President should chair the election committee, and Houston has volunteered to monitor the actual elections (as Mary Hubbard had been doing). In the future this precedent will stipulate that the outgoing President will be the monitor of the elections and the Vice President will become the Chair. The new committee consists of the following members:
Essie Moore: Finance and Administration Unit
Shelly Whaley: Student Affairs
Houston Taylor: ex-President
Dr. Roger Guevara: Chair
Paula Washington-Woods: ex-officio
Once again we discussed the possibility of conducting elections on the computer and eliminating the paper ballot. The problem with this seems to be that many of the employees at the Physical Plant do not have ready access to a computer. Wayne Garner volunteered to work on designing an electronic ballot and Charles Honza and Gaye Calhoun volunteered to explore ways to help the Physical Plan gain the needed computer access.
Hiring Guidelines
Beth Scroggins was chair of this committee, and will need to be replaced. Kellye Ogle indicated that she would contact LaTricia Davis for this position. Other members are David Wingfield, Jim McCollum, and Linda Smith.
Constitution Committee
This committee occasionally looks over and revises the constitution. Members are Houston Taylor, Chair, Wilma Williams, and Wayne Garner. Any changes that are made to the constitution must go before the Staff Assembly in August.
Other
Please continue to remember J. K. Sawyer in our prayers.
Adjournment
The motion to adjourn as made by Pat King and seconded by Houston Taylor. The next meeting of the Staff Senate will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 2:00 pm in Reynolds 210.
