Staff Senate Minutes
November 16, 2005
The Staff Senate met November 16, 2005 at 2 pm in Reynolds 210. Those in attendance were Beth Scroggins, Kay Sawyer, La’Tricia Davis, Gaye Calhoun, Wayne Garner, Rebecca Chiles, Kellye Ogle, David Wingfield, Pat King, Jill Bond, Darrell Morrison, Mark Trout, and Vera Camp.
Approval of Minutes
The meeting was called to order. A motion was made by Darrell Morrison to accept the September minutes as written with the following additional comment: Shane Warrick contacted the Staff Senate regarding the daycare issue. He was not contacted about the issue prior to it being discussed at the last Staff Senate meeting and he does not wish to have his name included in the discussion at this time. La’Tricia Davis seconded the motion. Motion passed.
Old Business
Earl Miller Memorial
The bench will be purchased from Barco products and will cost $530 plus $7 for shipping. The Staff Senate agreed to contribute the additional funds needed to purchase the bench.
Campus Day Care
Wayne Garner has received favorable responses from the staff and students. He has not yet contacted the administration concerning this issue.
Nelson Hall Parking
Mr. Roger Giles is opposed to any special parking but if special parking was put in place at Nelson it would have to be for both faculty and staff. Darrell Morrison made a suggestion that all parking around Nelson be designated as visitor parking so new students would have a place to park when they are visiting the Admissions office. Rebecca Chiles suggested that at least a few spaces be designated as visitor spaces.
Admissions Awning
Dr. Donna Allen said this project was on hold due to lack of funds. Once funds are available this project will be revisited.
Grove area parking in front of gym
This project has also been put on hold due to lack of funds.
Vending Machines
Dr. Donna Allen contacted the vending company regarding the issues brought before the Senate.
Committee Reports
Gaye Calhoun reported for the fringe benefits committee. A general interest meeting will be held in December to discuss dental insurance. Darrell Morrison provided a handout listing the different options and plans available.
New Business
Career Ladder Incentive Program (CLIP)
CLIP funds will be distributed in a separate check and will be processed in a special payroll after the November payroll is complete.
Gaye Calhoun made a motion to list the CLIP guidelines on the webpage. Darrell Morrison seconded the motion. Motion passed.
A recommendation was made for the CLIP guidelines to be added to the faculty/staff handbook.
Adjournment
A motion was made by Vera Camp and seconded by David Wingfield. Motion passed. The next meeting is December 14, 2005 at 2 pm in the Reynolds Center, Room 210.
