Staff Senate Minutes
February 11, 2004
The Staff Senate met February 11, 2004. Those members in attendance were Vera Camp, Kathy Cole, Jason Goodrich, Charles Honza, Keli Honza, Sarah Jennings, Robert Jones, Kellye Ogle, Beth Scroggins, Cledie Stuart, Sarajane Telford, Peggy Walters and David Wingfield. Our guests were Jim McCollum and Wilma Williams.
President Keli Honza called the meeting to order. Minutes from the last meeting were approved after a motion from Peggy Walters. Cledis Stuart seconded.
Unfinished Business
President Honza reported that Ashley Moore had graciously agreed to Chair the committee for the Staff Breakfast which will be held on Monday, March 15th – the week of Spring Break.
The subcommittee for CLIP/Staff Performance Evaluations reported that after making revisions and improvements on the evaluation form, it was sent to the Office for Personnel Management in Little Rock for approval. It did not pass. The State made recommendations for changes, but Mr. Giles rebutted the objection. He is optimistic that his debate with them will work. So we will continue to use the form that is in place at the present time. Jason Goodrich asked if the form is online. Kathy Cole said that it is in PowerPoint. She suggested that there would be more consistency if the forms were due from everyone on the same date. A deadline, if you will, rather than an anniversary date. Wilma Williams, a member of the subcommittee suggested a “time line” such as … by this date it goes to the supervisor, by this date it goes to ….., and on up the chain. Peggy Walters suggested that training might be necessary in order for consistency. Mr. Giles had offered to do the training. Charles Honza raised the point that because of the diversity in job descriptions the training of each group would have to be different. It was explained that the training would be more about the form, not the job itself. In order to receive a $100.00 CLIP award an E would have to be awarded on the evaluation. Further discussion followed! It was finally recommended that the committee revise, set up a time-line, then send it out to all Senators before presenting it to the administration. Cledis Stuart made a motion to accept this recommendation, and Beth Scroggins seconded.
Staff Senate Elections Committee
New Senators need to be elected, so an elections committee was appointed by President Honza. Those on the committee are: Sara Jennings, Chair, Peggy Walters, Essie Moore and Robert Jones.
Committee Report
Jason Goodrich reported that Mr. Giles has been in budget meetings and unable to respond to questions regarding the hiring guidelines.
President Honza then set the next meeting for March 10th, and reminded everyone that Dr. Rankin would be attending to give a report on the building project. With that, Cledis Stuart motioned to adjourn, Peggy Walters seconded.
