Those members in attendance were Gaye Calhoun, Very Camp, Kathy Cole, Jason Goodrich, Charles Honza, Keli Honza, Sarah Jennings, Essie Moore, Beth Scroggins, Tommy Slaughter, Houston Taylor, Sarajane Telford, and Peggy Walters. Our guests were Dr. Dan Dykema and LaVennier Broadus.
President Keli Honza called the meeting to order. Minutes from the last meeting were approved after a motion from Peggy Walters. The motion was seconded.
Committee Reports
Kathy Cole gave an update on the progress being made by the committee regarding staff evaluations. The subcommittee met twice in December to review the staff evaluation and make suggestions for revisions. Revisions were e-mailed to Mr. Giles before December 18, 2003. The revised evaluation has been sent to the State Department of Finance and Administration Office of Personnel for preliminary review – considered the first level review. Only a couple of changes were required due to state law and the evaluation is now ready for final approval. Once approved, Mr. Giles will begin training supervisors and staff in small groups.
The subcommittee will continue to meet this semester to discuss revisions to the CLIP program to include all staff, classified and unclassified, as well as including criteria relating to continuing education for staff. Gaye Calhoun asked if the CLIP Program will be funded after all the hard work the committee has done, and will it be funded from year to year? The committee received a commitment from the administration to support the CLIP Program, but the funding is still unclear.
Hiring Guidelines Committee
The committee, which includes Jason Goodrich, Jim McCollum, Tricia Watson, LaTricia Davis, and LaVennier Broadus, reported that the project had been placed on the “back burner,” but they will be meeting with Mr. Giles as soon as he contacts them.
New Business
Staff Awards Breakfast
President Honza asked the Senate if anyone would like to volunteer to head the Staff Awards Breakfast preparations. No one volunteered. It was recommended the Mark Trout be contacted for suggestions …. since he has done such a great job the last few years! We will await his recommendations.
Other
Beth Scroggins had several questions that fellow colleagues had brought to her attention.
1. Could there be separate payroll checks for separate jobs? For instance staff
check/adjunct check.
2. Can we get paid twice a month? Do any other colleges get paid every two weeks?
3. Spring Break? UALR gets Friday off without taking vacation. Could we get that? Could we work 10 hour days that week, then get Friday? What about a flex week? A motion was made that we make a recommendation to Mr. Giles to have a flex week during Spring break. For example, one could work it out with their supervisor – whatever day of the week would work better for both of them.
President Honza then asked if there was further business. There was not. With that, Houson Taylor made a motion to adjourn the meeting, with a second from Vera Camp and Beth Scroggins.
The next Staff Senate meeting will be February 11, 2003 at 2:00 p.m., in Magale.
