Staff Senate Meeting
Thursday, March 6, 2003
“History was made on Thursday, March 6, 2003 when the Staff Senate had its first meeting.” These were the words mentioned by President David Rankin as he congratulated the group and offered his support and assistance for the future. Also offering their support were Drs. Corbet Lamkin, Donna Allen, and Mr. Roger Giles.
Those members in attendance were Gaye Calhoun, David Wingfield, Keli Honza, Robert Jones, Houston Taylor, Beth Scroggins, Vera Camp, Sarajane Telford, Kellye Ogle, Charles Honza, Mark Trout, Tommy Slaughter, Sara Jennings, Cledis Stuart, Jason Goodrich, Kathy Cole and Peggy Walters.
Roger Giles took the podium with instructions as to procedure and policy. The first order of business was to elect officers. The following officers were elected to serve the rest of this school year through the end of 2004.
President Keli Honza
Vice President Sarah Jennings
Secretary Sarajane Telford
Representative Tommy Slaughter
With that being done, President Keli Honza then took the podium to rousing applause. The next order of business was to decide when to have meetings: place, time, day. After several options were discussed, it was suggested that the Senate meet the second Wednesday of each month, in Magale 102, at 3:30 p.m. Cledis Stuart moved to accept this arrangement and Peggy Walters seconded the motion.
The next item for discussion was the Staff Appreciation Breakfast. There had been some criticism about having the breakfast on the Monday of Spring break. So it was decided that just for this year the breakfast would be held on the Monday morning after commencement, which would be May 19, 2003. Sarah Jennings suggested that Arvia Askew handle the awards and years of service certificates since she is familiar with this task. Hopefully she will accept this responsibility one more time! President Honza will meet with last year’s breakfast committee and get suggestions from them. Next year the Senate will send out several date and location possibilities and allow the staff to vote on their preference.
On the agenda for the next meeting is to draw for years of service on the Staff Senate.
With that President Honza adjourned the meeting.
