Understanding Rotaract: A Platform for Personal and Professional Development

An Overview of Rotaract

Rotaract is a group of individuals from various backgrounds and interests that work together with the common goal of making valuable service contributions to our local, regional, and worldwide community. Our major focus is on serving our SAU campus and local community. Additionally, we are associated with the Magnolia Rotary Club, which we can work with for larger projects such as the Volunteer Fair that was put together this Spring.

Benefits of being involved

Rotaract is a service organization at its core, where our focus is helping our surrounding community. This includes bringing SAU students together with volunteer organizations in the community during our SAU Rotaract Volunteer Fair, or doing smaller projects like making toys for CCAPS. Rotaract is not a discipline specific organization and recruits students from various academic interests that all have a common goal of helping our community.  Our association with the Magnolia Rotary Club provides students the opportunity to attend their club meetings on Thursdays, which have invited speakers commonly from local organizations. This introduces students to what is going on in our community, as well as connects students with individuals in the Rotary Club which is a diverse group of people across many professions.

How Rotract can lead you to opportunities

As noted above, the SAU Rotaract is associated with the Magnolia Rotary Club. Rotary is a non-career specific organization and the Magnolia Rotary Club is composed of individuals from various professions including banking, business, marketing, insurance, teachers, school administrators, engineers and several others. Our Rotaract members are invited to come to Rotary meetings and events, where they are able to interact with Rotary members. This allows for the students in our club to be able to ask questions about various career paths, and potentially make networks in their future career field.

Interested in Joining

Rotaract can be used as a tool for students to be involved in community service and personal development. It offers diverse opportunities for leadership training, professional networking, and growth. Through Rotaract, young adults can make a positive impact on the community, develop personally and professionally, and connect with a bigger picture. To join please contact, Daniel McDermott at dsmcdermott@saumag.edu.
