The Park Interpreter is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and presenting interpretive and outdoor recreation-focused interpretive programs and special events for park visitors, civic groups, schools, and other organizations, to include demonstrations, talks, guided walks, and outdoor skills workshops. Programming focuses on facilitating engaging experiences and guiding park guests toward a personal sense of place regarding the cultural, historical, and natural resources within the collections and mission of Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources and south Arkansas.
Position researches and records data regarding park resources and programs; writes detailed plans for programs; coordinates publicity efforts with the Communications section, including media releases, news articles, flyers, and brochures; may appear on local radio or television as needed; assists with care of museum artifacts and records; and occasionally delivers presentations using audio-visual equipment.
Other duties include assisting with strategic planning; site maintenance; and performing office, front desk, and hospitality-related duties as necessary. Applicant may serve as park manager on duty in the absence of other personnel and assist in park operations including emergency response situations such as medical and weather incidents.
Applicant must have technical and communication skills sufficient to plan and coordinate safe, organized, engaging programs and special events; these duties include logistical coordination and budgetary requirements. Must be able to align interpretive programming for schools with Arkansas state curriculum standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience and technical skill in artifact care, museum records, archival research, public speaking, Microsoft Office software, photographic equipment, and writing of publications.
