Lessons Beyond the Classroom – Christa Taylor

This is an interview with Christa Taylor, Assistant Professor of Biology, at Southern Arkansas University.

What subject areas do you teach here at SAU?

I teach multiple subjects, including Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Career and Life Planning, Freshman Seminar, and Introduction to Biology.

How long have you been teaching?

I have been teaching at Southern Arkansas University for 19 years.

What is the most important lesson you hope your students take away from your class?

The most important lesson I hope my students take away is to work hard and avoid procrastination. I also hope they remember our lessons in ecology and the importance of caring for the environment, doing their part to help protect our planet.

What skills do you believe are the most valuable in life after college?

After college, the most important skills are having a strong work ethic and being a good person.

If you could give one piece of advice to your students before they graduate, what would it be?

My advice is to do what makes you happy and don’t just focus on your work.  Enjoy life!

What is one thing you did, outside of your education, that prepared you for your career?

Volunteering and working within the community really prepared me for the classroom. It helped me understand that people are different and have unique needs, especially in a learning environment.
