Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation, with headquarters in Texarkana, Arkansas, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Accountant at the Cooperative Headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain General Ledger and subsidiary ledgers,
- Prepare journal entries and reconcile all accounts.
- Maintain Job Cost Records, including estimates, posting of transactions, balancing closing to plant accounts, RUS 219’s, and special equipment, engineering reports, and property tax records.
- Prepare monthly financials including RUS Form 7, internal statements and associated schedules.
- Maintain records for inventory of materials including posting of charge outs/salvage tickets.
- Prepare financial reports for: sales, energy, construction, and transportation.
- Maintain transportation records such as licensing, mileage, tanks, and vehicle sales.
- Processing state and local tax returns including payroll taxes, sales taxes and property taxes.
- Use computer software including NISC, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Backup other accounting positions as needed.
- Perform related work and other miscellaneous duties as required by supervisor.
- Maintain all payroll records.
- Process time sheets and payroll checks.
- Prepare all quarterly and annual Federal and State payroll related forms.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively with auditors, information technology representatives, vendors, and others in carrying out job duties.
- Ability to make and verify computations accurately and quickly.
- Ability to operate business machines such as computer terminal or personal computer, calculator, and copier. Ability to learn the use of NISC and personal computer software.
- Ability to apply RUS regulations, PSC regulations and Cooperative Policy and Procedures to effectively carry out job duties.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to pension plans, payroll, worker’s compensation and other employee-related items.
- Ability to perform work under pressure for deadlines.
- Ability to maintain professional composure, tact, patience and courtesy at all times.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to work with accounting personnel.
- Ability to work with other employees relating to accounting duties.
- Ability to work with auditors, NISC, RUS/CFC representatives and others.

Education/Experience:
- Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- 5 years of general ledger accounting experience.
- Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail.
- Able to work within a team and independently under general supervision.
- Able to multi-task and complete projects within specific deadlines.
- Prior experience in a rural electric cooperative accounting environment is a plus.
- CPA preferred
