Who Can Apply?
Any student attending one of the target high schools is eligible to apply to the SAU Upward Bound Program. Students with an interest in post-secondary success are especially encouraged to apply.
Additionally, An Upward Bound Applicant:
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must be entering their freshman year in high school and at least 14 years of age at the time of application
- Must have college potential but need academic support to be successful in college
- Most students must qualify in both of the following areas, although a few students may be accepted who only meet one of the following:
- Low-income (guideline set forth by the federal government)
- First generation college student (i.e., no natural or adoptive parent living in the home has a four-year college degree)
In addition to the above criteria, admission to the Southern Arkansas University Upward Bound Program is based on student grades and counselor and teacher recommendations.
