Southern Arkansas University

Learn. Serve. Lead.

The Service Learning Department at Southern Arkansas University empowers students to learn, lead, and serve through hands-on engagement that strengthens our campus and community. Bringing together Saddle Up & Serve, SAU+VISTA, and Volunteer Services, the department creates a unified hub for civic involvement, experiential learning, and community partnership.

Service Learning connects academic learning with real-world impact—helping students apply their talents, explore career pathways, and make meaningful contributions to the region. Whether through structured AmeriCorps programming, campus-wide volunteer initiatives, or long-term service projects, students gain valuable experience that supports academic success, leadership development, and community well-being.

At SAU, Service Learning is more than an activity—it is a commitment to building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities. From addressing local needs and supporting youth development to promoting healthy futures and economic opportunity, our initiatives engage students in purposeful service that creates lasting change.

Together, Saddle Up & Serve, SAU+VISTA, and Volunteer Services offer students a wide range of opportunities to serve, grow, and lead. Whether you’re looking to contribute your time, explore service-based careers, or join a transformative AmeriCorps experience, the Service Learning Department is here to help you get connected and make an impact.
