The original inspiration for Mr. Stout’s studio work comes from the experience of becoming a father, but his paintings and woodcuts are about much more than that: his circular forms evoke fullness, the human experience of time, and the hidden potential of a seed to grow into something larger than itself.
Having taught for 30 years, he has been able to demonstrate for art students in a clear and tactile way how a body of work can evolve over time. He also illuminates how an experience can lead to unexpected and exciting realizations, and towards a deeper understanding of both the subject of the work and the techniques needed to express it.
Scotland received his MFA from Stephen F. Austin State University.
