Kurt Coppersmith has taught courses in studio art, game production, film studies and web development. He has also worked in the technology industry for over 20 years. Always working on multiple projects, he most recently implemented new technology and software applications for the newly renovated Vivint Smart Home Arena, home of the Utah Jazz.
His research focuses on games for health and serious games. Mr. Coppersmith, and his team, was recently awarded a patent for work on a medical application that helps patients use augmented reality technology to fight specific diseases.
His illustrations and paintings deal with blurring the lines between abstraction and reality. Specifically exploring the boundaries of surface tension and texture, by combining various media with contrasting substrates. Though he uses humor to draw the viewer in, it is a foil for something deeper.
He received his BFA (Painting and Drawing) and MFA (Film and Media Arts) from the University of Utah.
Mr. Coppersmith is a fan of William Blake, Alfons Mucha, Minerva Teichert, Ron Swanson and all the colors in the crayon box.
