Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month tenure track chemical engineering faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering. Our rapidly growing Engineering and Physics Department is housed in a dedicated, state-of-the-art facility containing labs equipped with industry-driven technology, complemented by a dedicated engineering machine shop. Duties: teach freshmen to upper-level undergraduate engineering courses in the area of chemical engineering, including but not limited to Chemical Engineering Fundamentals, Mass Transfer, Chemical Engineering Processes and Reactor Design, and Chemical Engineering Laboratory; oversee successful completion of Senior/Capstone Design Projects in Chemical Engineering; oversee a two-year training program for chemical plant operators and teaching technical and safety-related coursework to prepare students for their roles; supervise undergraduate research projects; serve on committees; perform scholarly activity; engage in recruitment, retention, and advising of students and student clubs; the new candidate will have a chance to play a key role in the rising chemical engineering Course outcomes include knowledge of process equipment, plant utilities, and simulation techniques, as well as safety and regulatory training, including OSHA standards, hazardous materials handling, and environmental compliance. The ideal faculty candidate will have the expertise to teach across these areas and prepare students for industry certifications and hands-on roles in chemical processing environments. The new candidate will play a part in concentration in the current growing accredited B.S. Engineering program. Familiarity with ABET accreditation is strongly desired but not required and other duties assigned.
Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering is required by time of employment. teaching and industry experience are preferred; must have expertise in chemical engineering and demonstrate an ability to teach undergraduate students, excellent communication skills, the ability to work well with people, and a strong desire to interact with students both in the classroom and in undergraduate research projects.
