Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 12-month, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Doctoral Studies in the School of Graduate Studies. This position includes administrative responsibilities as Program Director and Chair of the Department of Doctoral Studies, overseeing the university’s only doctoral program-the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Rural and Diverse Educational Leadership.
The Ed.D. program offers fucus areas in Superintendency Leadership, Teacher Leadership, Higher Education/Community Leadership, and a non-focus track of Rural & Diverse Educational Leadership. The faculty member will provide academic leadership for the program, serve as a faculty member, and collaborate across departments to support student success.
Duties: develop and teach online courses in foundational program courses; serve on and lead dissertation committees; conduct intensive advising that fosters success with varied graduate students; maintain a scholarly agenda and contribute to academic research; manage the doctoral budget, lead marketing campaigns and implement ongoing recruitment and retention strategies for students; monitor and manage applications using Salesforce, conduct applicant reviews which may include interviews; advise students and schedule courses, monitor course rotations and enrollment; securing, mentoring, and monitoring adjunct faculty; oversee faculty and adjunct compensation procedures; collect, monitor, and report program assessment data for institutional reporting; provide leadership and oversight of doctoral faculty teaching assignments, supervise curriculum development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation to ensure academic quality and alignment of program goals, manage the doctoral faculty evaluation processes and maintain records tracking students’ progress; serve as administrator for ProQuest dissertation submissions; secure qualified faculty as content experts for serving dissertating committees; organize campus-based program events and represent the program in university and professional external functions; collaborate effectively with various faculty and staff on cross-disciplinary matters and/or university-wide matters and other duties assigned. This position requires on-campus presence with dedicated office hours during university operating hours and in-person and virtual meetings to fulfill professional obligations. Occasional meetings after hours may be necessary to accommodate students in varying time zones.
Qualifications: earned doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership, Educational Research, Higher Education, or a closely related field required; demonstrate commitment to the profession by service to P-12 and/or higher educational institutions; proven record of professional excellence exhibited through professional service and/or scholarly works; expertise in dissertation research with the ability to mentor and support doctoral students through the research and writing process is preferred; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff and students.
