Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Human Performance and Sport Sciences with a teaching emphasis in the physical education and coaching programs, effective August 10, 2025. The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences is one of the largest on campus. The department focuses on bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science: Pre-Professional, Exercise Science: Strength & Conditioning, Coaching, Athletic Administration, K-12 Physical Education and Health (Teacher Preparation), and a master’s degree in Kinesiology – Coaching.
Duties: Teach a full-time course load of classes in the undergraduate program in coaching and education (teacher preparation); advise students in the undergraduate program on degree completion and career readiness; use a student-centered approach to teaching, advising, and mentoring; conduct scholarly research related to the field; service to the university, college, department, and field including committee work and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in kinesiology, sport pedagogy, physical education, or closely related field, ABD candidates will be considered for the position; enthusiasm to teach and mentor aspiring young professionals in coaching; ability to lead learning in face-to-face and online environments; strong desire to work with diverse student populations; continuous commitment to using data to improve the quality of all facets of the department; have a record of or the potential for scholarly research including presentations and publications; demonstrated excellence as an online teacher of record; active in regional, national, and/or international professional organizations; experience with curricular revisions that will keep our majors abreast of the evolving needs of the field.
