The Dempsey College of Liberal and Performing Arts at Southern Arkansas University invites applicants for a Visiting Instructor of Design and Technical Theatre beginning January 2025. Housed in the Department of Performing Arts and Mass Communication, the Theatre program offers B.F.A. degrees in Technical Theatre and Performance with emphases in the Theatre and Musical Theatre. Southern Arkansas University is the fastest-growing university in Arkansas and is located in Magnolia in the southwestern part of the state. The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
Duties: Teach one design/tech courses at the introductory and advanced levels and other courses based on applicant’s area(s) of specialty (additional compensation per course(s) taught); oversee the design and execution of the technical elements for departmental productions; supervise student technical workers in production rehearsals and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre Design and/or Theatre Production required; two or more years of collegiate-level teaching preferred; demonstrated skill as a scenic designer and technical director preferred; professional and academic memberships or certifications preferred.
