Southern Arkansas University is accepting applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor, tenure-track position in Exercise Science, effective August 1, 2025. Should a highly qualified candidate be identified with earlier availability, there is the potential for a January 2025 start date.
The Department of Human Performance and Sport Sciences is one of the largest on campus. The department focuses on Exercise Science, Sports Management, and K-12 Physical Education. We actively collaborate with all departments within the College of Education and Human Performance. Additionally, the department offers a graduate degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport coaching.
The Exercise Science program at Southern Arkansas University is vibrant and one of the fastest-growing majors on campus, with 155+ majors. The degree currently offers two tracks (Pre-Professional and Strength Conditioning.) The Pre-Professional track prepares students to be admitted into medical field graduate programs like Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, etc. The strength and conditioning track prepare those individuals seeking a career in the fitness and sports performance fields.
Duties: teach a full-time load consisting of face-to-face and online instruction; teach courses in the Exercise Science curriculum; use a student-centered approach to teaching, advising/mentoring; serve on committees; scholarship and service to the university, department and community and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Exercise Science or closely related field; strong ability to deliver a wide variety of undergraduate level courses in the discipline of exercise science; willingness to formulate courses that expand on current curricula and actively contribute to refining undergraduate-level courses and curricula; has strong desire to work with diverse student populations and is committed to using data to improve the quality of all facets of the department continuously; have a record of or the potential for publishing, presenting scholarly endeavors, and /or securing external funding; must be a team player that complements and strengthens our graduate and undergraduate programs of study; work with a team-centered approach; experience and understanding of ACSM, NSCA and/or other related professional bodies.
