Duties: Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the tutorial component of the federally funded educational opportunity program for high school students who are low-income, potential first-generation college students; ensure that educationally and/or economically disadvantaged students are effectively accessing available resources and program services to improve their academic and personal progress; provide instructional and curriculum support, tutorial support, conducts training and workshops, and helps plan enrichment programs for the academic year and the summer program; work with students to promote effective study habits and schedule workshops on problem-solving skills and strategies needed for academic success; participate as a team member to ensure that the Upward Bound office has a student-centered environment to increase participant retention and success; visit local and target schools for recruitment presentations and establish relationships with target schools’ liaisons, counselors and principals. This position is governed by the policies of the institution and the Upward Bound grant. The coordinator will work 40 hours per week and must be willing to work a flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend hours and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education or counseling; previous tutoring experience; knowledge of college admissions and financial aid procedures; experience working with low-income, first generation and/or minority students; excellent interpersonal, organizational, computer, and communication skills; previous experience organizing events, workshops, and/or field trips is a plus; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, students, parents and the public.
