Dr. Carol Colaninno-Meeks took over the reins of the Arkansas Archeological Survey’s Sponsored Research Program on October 1, leaving the Station Archeologist position at this station vacant. The Survey conducted a process to replace Dr. Colaninno-Meeks, and has selected Dr. Carl Drexler, lately Station Assistant, as her replacement. Dr. Drexler will assume the role on December 1.
Dr. Drexler earned his PhD at The College of William & Mary, writing his dissertation on the archeology of civilian life at Dooley’s Ferry, Arkansas, during the Civil War. He earned his master’s at the University of Nebraska and his bachelor’s at Grinnell College, Iowa.
His research interests focus on Conflict Archaeology and spatial analysis in archeology. He has taught at both Southern Arkansas University and The College of William & Mary. He is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, raised in Denver and Houston.
