The Fall semester is creeping up on us. It’s time to start making those essential checklists for move-in day. While your student may have a listed of new items that he or she needs, they are sure into include a few new hot items. Here is SAU’s top 10 list items college students want.
1. Apple Products: iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac Book
The screen quality, applications, ease, and sleek look of Apple products make every college student want at least one of these items. You can find the iPhone at your local AT&T or Verizon carrier. The iPad, iPod, and Macbook are sold at Apple stores, Best Buy, RadioShack, and even Toys-R-Us. Prices range anywhere from $49 for the iPod shuffle to $1100 for an Apple Macbook.
2. Mini-Fridge and Microwave
While most college students don’t do a lot of cooking, a mini-fridge and microwave allow them to have small, simple snack in their own residence hall room. It’s perfect for that left over pizza and maybe a few fruits and vegetables. You can find a variety of colorful mini-fridges at your local Walmart for $69 and up. Be sure to find out if your student’s roommate is already bringing a mini-fridge and/or microwave to save space in his or her room.
3. Flat Screen Television
Not only does the flat screen take up less room, it looks cool, and allows students the luxury of watching their favorite shows (when they aren’t studying of course). There are cable hookups available in each residence hall room at SAU. Check out the latest televisions at Best Buy, Target, or Walmart. Prices are typically $125 or more, depending on the make, model, and size.
4. Gaming Systems: Xbox 360, Xbox Kinect, Playstation, Wii
Whether you play by yourself or with a group of friends, a gaming system is an excellent addition to any residence hall room. There are many different brands and models out there to choose from, it all depends on what type of games your student likes to play. An Xbox at will typically cost $200, while a costs Wii around $150.
5. Kindle or Nook
Everyone needs a break from studying now and then. A Kindle or Nook gives students the opportunity to read for fun on this sleek electronic book reader. You can find a kindle at amazon.com for $139. The Nook is available for $139 at barnesandnoble.com.
6. Bedding: Mattress Pad, Memory Foam, Pillows, Comforter, Sheets
Each residence hall room at SAU comes with a twin size mattress. A good mattress pad, twin size memory foam pad, set of pillows, comforter, and sheets can make any room feel more like home. Shop around and find what’s right for you!
7. Fan and Heated Blanket
Each student is different when it comes to how hot or cold he or she prefers the residence hall room to be. Having a fan for those hot days and a heated blanket for the cooler months is a great item to have on hand, just in case.
8. Digital Camera
Most students want to capture those college memories on camera. Whether it’s mulegating at a football game, attending special events on and off campus, or just time spent with new friends, a camera is a must have for college students. You can find great digital cameras for $100 or less.
9. Alarm Clock with Built-in CD Player
There’s no question that students have to get up and go to class, and sometimes that alarm on your cell phone just doesn’t work. An alarm clock with a CD player gives the students that wakeup call they need, plus the option of listening to music and relaxing when they have time. If you have already purchased an iPhone or iPod, there are several alarm clocks that will also pair with your Apple device.
10. GPS
For those traveling to Mulerider Country, a GPS is a helpful tool in making the journey. Students can find their way around town, travel with friends, and make their way home without getting lost. A Garmin or TomTom GPS can be found at our local Walmart, with prices ranging from $60-$200.
