Raymond Adams, assistant professor of social work at Southern Arkansas University, recently presented cancer prevention strategies among African American men at risk for prostate and colorectal cancer to the Columbia County HEALTH Coalition.
Adams has more than eight years of social work practice experience with several different populations, including at-risk and abused children, adults with severe and persistent mental illness, persons with addictions, and children with severe emotional disturbances.
Prior to Adams joining the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at SAU in 2014, he served as project manager for University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine CATCH planning grant (funded by the American Academy of Pediatrics), where he conducted in-person interviews with different denominational congregation members about food insecurity and health-care practices.
His research agenda emanates from community practice experience in Northeast Louisiana and the Midwest. He continues to remain active in local church life, consulting with church congregations who are engaged in responding to the practical needs of persons both domestically and internationally.
He earned a Masters of Social Work and holds a certificate in Multiculturalism in Social Work Practice from Baylor University School of Social Work. He has a Bachelor’s of Phycology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
The Academic Partnership in Public Child Welfare in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at SAU sponsored the lunch meeting of HEALTH in Columbia County on April 6, 2016. HEALTH is a coalition whose mission is to Help Everyone Achieve Long-Term Health in Columbia County.
