Southern Arkansas University’s Criminal Justice Club hopes to brighten the holidays for U.S. military personnel serving overseas this holiday season.
“These men and women are spending the holidays away from their loved ones and in a foreign country to protect our freedom,” said Louis Roy, assistant professor of criminal justice at SAU. “A package from someone who is thinking about them can make a big impact on their holidays.”
The group has developed a list of items that will be accepted to put in the care packages. Those items include non-perishable snacks (no pork products), magazines, travel size personal hygiene products, candy, hometown newspapers, and other similar items.
Members of the Criminal Justice Club are also working with area schools to have students write a short letter thanking the service members. Any member of the public who would like to send a thank you note is invited to participate.
The deadline to drop off items at SAU’s Peace Hall is Monday, Dec. 1. Questions about the effort may be directed to Roy at (870) 235-4226.
