Like most freshmen during their first semester, Holly Ball was unsure what career path she wanted to take.
“I had a hard time deciding on my major,” said the 2003 graduate of Emerson High School. “I took an introduction to criminal justice class and thought it was fun.”
Holly had found her niche. She is now a sophomore criminal justice major.
“I thought a career in criminal justice would be a challenge to me, and I would have an opportunity to serve my country by working for the government,” Holly said.
She seems very happy with her choice. Her ultimate goal is to work for the FBI one day.
“The criminal justice professors have a lot of experience to share with their students,” she said. “They keep you interested, and they help you in any way they can.”
During Holly’s senior year of high school, she didn’t know what college or university she wanted to attend.
“I didn’t know if I wanted to attend SAU, but my sister always encouraged me to attend,” explained Holly. “She really liked the University and the atmosphere.”
Holly’s sister, Erin, is a recent graduate of SAU.
Another factor in Holly choosing SAU was the start of the Honors College program.
“The program was just getting started, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to take Honors classes and live in the Honors College residence hall,” she said.
Holly’s younger brother, who is a freshman at Emerson High School, will also be a student at SAU. Unlike Holly, he already has a plan for his future.
While it took Holly a bit of time to find her niche, now that she has, she couldn’t be happier.
“There is something here for everyone,” she said. “Students learn things at SAU that will help them later in life.”
