After a student has been admitted to the university and enrolled in courses, computing accounts are created for the student. The student’s username is constructed from the initials of the first and middle name, full last name, and a unique four (4) digit number which prevents duplications. Once the username is generated it along with a password becomes the user’s identification to the campus network and systems including email.
Changes to the username once created are difficult to propagate to the appropriate systems and may result in confusion of a student’s identification which could cause loss of information for the student. To eliminate this situation, all usernames once created shall never be changed as long as the individual is a student. However, in cases when a name change causes the necessity to change a student’s username, once the change has been processed by the Registrar’s office, the new username will be activated for the following semester.
