The procedures for creating student accounts and loading of student information in BlackBoard courses completes within two hours of registration. Additionally, once the student’s information has been loaded, the name and email fields will not be editable by the student from within Blackboard.
Format of the student account will be the first letter of the first name, the middle initial (if the student has a middle name), the last name, and four random numbers with no spaces. For example, the account for John David Student will be JDSTUDENT4321. Once the username is generated, it, along with the password becomes the user’s identification to the campus network and systems, including email and Blackboard.
Changes to the username, once created, are difficult to propagate to the appropriate systems and may result in confusion of a student’s identification which could cause loss of information for the student. To eliminate this situation, all usernames, once created, shall never be changed as long as the individual is a student. However, in cases when a name change causes the necessity to change a student’s username, once the change has been processed by the Registrar’s Office, the new username will be activated for the following semester.
