Audition Information
Southern Arkansas University Bands is open to students of all majors and experience levels. Whether music is your career path or choice of creative outlet, you have a place here.
Band scholarships are also available to all students and can be combined with academic and private scholarships.
Scholarship Requirements
Students receiving a band scholarship are required to:
- Participate in the Mulerider Marching Band (Fall)
- Participate in a concert band or chamber ensemble (Spring)
- Be enrolled full-time
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher
Color guard scholarships are also available year-round.

No, music scholarships are available to all members of the Southern Arkansas University Band program, regardless of their major.
No, Mulerider Marching Band rehearses only during its designated class time and rehearses briefly the morning of a performance.
Yes, the summer band camp begins the week before school starts. All students that have registered and auditioned for the band program are contacted during the summer with instructions regarding the marching band show music, their residence hall move-in dates, and other important materials they may need. Food and residence hall lodging during the summer band camp is paid for by the Band program.
After a band scholarship has been rewarded, it is sent to Financial Aid and added to the recipient’s SAU student account typically within the first three weeks of school.
Students pay for their band T-shirt, gloves, and their flip folder if they request one. Instrument rental, travel, and all other fees are paid for by the band program.
