Game, Animation, & Simulation Design
Artist Biography: Ian Frisby is a 3D modeler and creature designer that was born and lives in Arkansas. He is a graduate of Southern Arkansas University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Gaming, Animation, and Simulation Design.
Ian creates 3D models to be used in video games and animations. His work consists of characters and creatures along with objects to be used as everyday items such as guns, beds, rooms, etc. He creates models based on his own designs and by following the actual blueprints of existing items to make them as realistic as possible.
When he was a child, Ian would watch cartoons and play games with his father, which is what sparked his interest in art. Since then, Ian has been actively taking art classes and learning about the industry. He would also watch wildlife documentaries which has influenced his love for creature design. As a child, Ian always enjoyed Natural Geographic shows about wildlife and was inspired by how the animal kingdom has adapted over the years.
Ian hopes that his art is easy to understand, such that the viewer knows what the item in question is from a glance. Ian strives to make realistic creatures that look like they belong to a cohesive world. He does this by first creating sketches, finding references for the item in question, modeling in Maya or Blender, and then rendering them in the those same programs.
Ian's Work
Phoenix Flam Incorperated
This series is based on a fictional company I created called Phoenix Flame Incorporated that exist in the middle of Antartica. Including are models of each company that resides at the Antartica Complex along with Phoenix Flame Inocorporated as well logos for each of the companies. This is planned to be the building blocks of a future project I wish to create, telling the story in much greater detail.
Shawcraft MK III Dalek
As a fan of the show Doctor Who, I thought it would be fun to create my own Dalek model. I used copies of the actual blueprints for the ones used on the show as a base for my model. I decided to create the Shawcraft MK III design as it is the most commonly used base for all other daleks in the series. This model is an acurate and very faithful adaptaion of that original design.
