To obtain a bachelor of science in education degree with a major in Physical Education and Health, candidates must earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in his/her major and supporting field (if any), and complete the pattern of courses listed below. Licensure areas include K-12.

Admissions Policies and Procedures
Criteria for admission to the College of Education Licensure Programs:
Each candidate must have the following requirements to be admitted as listed in the catalog.
- GPA of 3.0 or above*
- A grade or C or above in Intro to Education and Credit in Intro to Education Field Experience I
- 30 completed semester credit hours
- Passing Praxis CORE, ACT, or SAT admissions scores (see admissions policy below and gold form for current admission passing scores) *
- Completed admissions dispositions assessment (see advisor) **
- Once candidates have met the above criteria, a “gold form” (see advisor) for the College of Education is completed and submitted by the candidate’s advisor and signed by the college dean. Once submitted and approved a candidate is then admitted and it is noted on the candidate’s official transcript.
Undergraduate admission policy: Applicants who meet all criteria for admissions will be admitted upon completion of their application.
*The Office of Admissions, Field Experience and Licensure (AFEL) and/or the dispositions committee may consider admitting those applicants who meet all the admission criteria except one of the following two:
- The required minimum GPA of 3.0 (must be between 2.7 and 2.99) by rank of GPA and dispositions. If cohort GPA falls below a 3.0 conditional admission for GPA will not be granted.
- One required admissions test is not completed and/or passed by time of admission.
Conditional admissions only apply for 1 semester. Candidate must provide proof of the
following to continue:
- Conditional GPA admission candidates must show a semester GPA higher than a 3.0 for full admission and enrollment for the next semester.
- Conditional admissions test candidates must provide passing test scores for full admission and enrollment for the next semester.
If conditional admissions is not granted for the semester when a candidate applies, admission in future terms is possible with higher GPA or passing admissions test scores.
** Those conditional admits who score basic or below for 2 or more categories will not be considered for admission until a meeting with the dispositions committee reviews and has a meeting in regards to the application.
Candidates who have been out of the program for two or more terms must reapply and meet all current program requirements to be readmitted. The decision is final. The faculty advisor closely follows the progress of the candidate. Candidates who have been admitted to the EPP are expected to maintain all degree requirements or be dropped from the program.
Letters of dismissal will be mailed to the address listed in the student’s admission folder in the College of Education office. Candidates are responsible for submitting address changes to the College of Education files. Students who are not approved for admission to the EPP may not enroll or receive credit in courses that require admission to the College of Education.
- Must apply for acceptance. Designating this major constitutes making application.
- Be on track and making progress in general education required courses.
- Have completed a minimum of 25 credit hours that demonstrate progression on the identified degree plan. HKR 1113 and HKR 1123 are to be completed prior to acceptance.
- At the successful completion of HKR 2003/2000, the candidate will be accepted into the degree program.
- New Admission Policy for Initial Licensure Program: Applicants to licensure related programs of study at Southern Arkansas University who meet all criteria for admissions (Including: GPA, ACT/ Praxis I CORE/GRE, Core courses and/or Dispositions) will be admitted upon completion of their application procedures. The Office of Admissions, Field Experience and Licensure (AFEL) and/or appropriate Educator Preparation Program (EPP) faculty committee may consider admitting those applicants who meet all the admission criteria except the required minimum GPA of 3.0 (must be between 2.7 and 2.99) by rank of GPA and dispositions. Candidates who have been out of the program for multiple terms will have to reapply and meet all current program requirements for readmission. The decision of the faculty committee is final.
