The Entrepreneurship degree provides students with the foundational knowledge they need to create, market, and fund new businesses and products. It covers the basic business concepts while also focusing on ways to foster innovation and creativity. Students complete the program with the ability to prepare a business plan.
Topics Covered
While the entrepreneurship degree is designed to help students start their own business, it is broad and flexible enough to help students succeed in finding a job in the corporate environment. Students cover concepts from management, marketing, and finance and may use electives to add competencies in information technology useful for launching e-businesses.
Entrepreneurship Careers
- Students often choose this degree if they have a business in mind or know they want to be self-employed.
- Many large companies have internal product development centers in which new markets are explored and new products developed. Even though financing is not as much of a problem in these large firms, other elements of the entrepreneurship process are much the same.
- Some occupations have high self-employment and will be supported by an entrepreneurship degree. Agricultural managers, cosmetologists, doctors, lawyers, photographers, real estate agents, and restaurant owners are some of the occupations that can benefit from an entrepreneurial degree.

Student Engagement
Developing a business plan is a major part of the entrepreneurship program. With this plan students can compete at the Arkansas Governor’s Cup in Little Rock for cash prizes.
The Emerging Entrepreneur club at SAU provides a supportive environment to work with other interested and engaged students on ideas or business plans. Additionally, the club works with the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center on program topics for business startups. The club has speakers and provides a way to interact with experienced entrepreneurs. An affiliation with the national Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, provides students access to additional opportunities and resources.
Faculty Expertise
- Tim Wise owns and manages a small writing, design, and publishing studio. He has worked with students who competed successfully in the Arkansas Governor’s Cup competition and was involved in the initial development of the competition.
